The Equestrian Trailhead at Black Water Heritage Trail State Park Milton Florida provides a place to park and ride your horse. You can also bring your bicycle for a ride along this eight-mile paved trail. The equestrian parking lot is located about halfway along the trail. The trail passes through a mixture of wooded wilderness, swampy areas, and flowers. It also crosses several creeks. It passes several watery overlooks and is ideal for rides and walks.
A few miles north of the Milton Trailhead, you can find the Whiting Field Trailhead. This trailhead is near the intersection of SR 87 and US 90. It is used by non-military personnel. If you are a military member, you will have to obtain permission from the station to use the trail in the area.
The Blackwater Heritage State Trail begins in the historic town of Milton. This paved pathway offers nine miles of sweeping views of the Florida landscape. You’ll travel through various scenery, including farmlands and urban areas, before descending into the forest.
Along the trail, you’ll pass through a cypress/bay tree swamp, which is populated with white-topped pitcher plants. You’ll also pass a playground and amphitheater. There are also restrooms and picnic tables at the trailhead.
The Milton Trail passes through several creeks. It’s a peaceful ride for families and children. It’s also perfect for bird watching.
The Milton Visitor’s Center is located at 5533 Alabama Street, approximately a mile from the trailhead. You can find information about area attractions and other local activities at the center. This facility is operated by the Blackwater Heritage Trail State Park Citizens Support Organization. There’s also a concession stand that serves food and drinks.
